Somark's Digitail tag is specially designed for implantation in rodents, specifically subcutaneously in their tail. It is 6mm long by 0.5mm wide by 0.25mm thick and is delivered in a 21 gauge needle. It is smaller than a grain of rice.
The small tag and needle size enables it to be injected into mice pups from 14 days old, as well as rat pups and adult rodents. The tag does not migrate and does not interfere with the lateral tail vein or dorsal artery.
Although it is very small, the read distance is up to 5cm and very fast to scan. The tags in the tail can be read through containers, so you do not even need to handle the animals.
The tag is coated in parylene C and is completely bio-inert. It is an Ultra High Frequency tag compatible with standards across all countries and the microchip has a read / write memory, enabling you to select data to write to and store on the chip.
The Digitail tag has no ferrous content and is completely compatible with MRI and CT scanning.
The Digitail tag is ideal for research groups wishing to automate collection of data from the rodent but who do not want to place tags in the rodent body and / or wish to image regions of the body. For research groups who wish to preserve both flanks of the rodent free for tumour cell injections and treatments, the Digitail tag is perfectly suited to yours needs.
